Do you make an effort to buy "American Made"?

Do you make an effort to buy American-Made?
We indeed live in a global economy. Free and/or fair trade between nations is what keeps that global economy running. Sixty years ago, the United States supplied the World with products. We became the strongest nation on the planet in large part due to exporting our goods across the globe.
Today the scene is much different. How easy is it to find something affordable that is "Made in the USA"? On the other hand, how easy is it to find something "Made in China"?
To a large degree it is difficult to fault US owned business for exporting their labor to China. The Chinese people work at a labor rate that is nearly impossible to compete with. From a business standpoint it is extremely difficult to justify purchasing an American Made baseball cap for $6.00, when one Made in China can be had for $1.89. Do I charge 3x more for the finished product because my supplier charges 3x more for the blank caps? Perhaps I simply charge $4.00 more for my finished product and hope my customers are patriotic.
As a consumer, can I justify paying $20,000 for an American Made bedroom set that I can get for $7000 if Made in China?
The scales will never be balanced, this is for certain. If Chinese prices go too high, then labor will move to India. If you've been paying attention you will have seen how labor has moved across the Eurasian continent...Japan...Korea...Vietnam...China.
I do feel, however that all is not completely lost. Over the weekend I "scored" two purchases that were Made in the USA. The prices were not that much higher than the competitors made overseas. Needless to say I was thrilled with my good fortune.
So I ask you...Do you make an effort to buy American-Made? In our current economic crisis, I think it is more important than ever to take the time to find products that are made in our homeland. If it costs a few dollars more to keep America working, then I urge you to do so. Every dollar that stays in America represents one less American who might lose their home.

I think the government should tax imports more than it already does and inject that money in the American economy. That will balance the price difference a bit and bring more money back in the US.

I also support American Made! As a Internet Sales Manager at Doug's Cadillac and Hummer, it amazed me how many people ran out during the peak of our gas prices, bought the little prius, or honda or toyota, and then when the gas priced dropped they tried to trade them in. Its sad, to see how much our consumers follow the herd, instead of doing what is best for them and the country.
Now if you want a prius, the dealers almost give them away....overstocked and sitting on them!

Its tough being a GM dealership right now, but I think this will come out very well in the end, of all this!
